Anti-poor Congress disrupting Parliament deliberately: Gao

STAFF REPORTER

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: The opposition Congress knows it will fail in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. This is the reason why the party is disrupting the Budget session of the Parliament where various bills for the poor and need were to have been placed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, State BJP President Tapir Gao said on Thursday.

BJP leaders and workers observed a day-long fast at the IG Park tennis court here to protest the “undemocratic” actions of the Congress leading to the disruption of the Budget session of Parliament on Tuesday.

Mobilising other parties to join the disruptive act is a sign of failure,” Gao said at the fasting venue, advising the Congress to decide on a prime minister candidate first.

Though we are more in number in the Parliament, we are respecting democracy by following the guidelines of the House. Disruption of the session by the opposition party is shameful. Parliament is an institution where everyone has the right to discuss and debate irrespective of party as we all represent common people,” Gao said.

Congress is a sinking ship with no shore to dock,” he added.

The main reason behind the hunger strike, Gao said, is to let the people of the State and the country know how the Congress is insulting the poor and needy by disrupting the Parliament.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said the prime minister is very keen on development in the Northeast. His visits to states in the region indicate his care and concern for the people.

This is the why the opposition fears losing the people’s mandate in the coming years. They are not concerned about the poor people of the country and busy in disrupting the Budget session,” Mein said.

The Congress, he added, had pre-planned the disruption.

When the PM is working on for the welfare of country, why is the opposition agitating, not supporting? At least they should have heard what was to be addressed. We strongly condemn the immature act by the opposition parties,” Mein said.

Education Minister Hongchum Nangdham, BJP Vice President Tame Phassang, BJP General Secretary Jarpum Gamlin along with other BJP leaders and karyakartas of BJP from the districts took part in the hunger strike.
