SHONAAM TABRI DADA ITANAGAR, Sep 04: The people of Taja Hapa Circle of Pakke-Kessang district have resented the apathy of the State government and a former minister from the constituency for turning a blind eye towards development of the area. The circle has been facing acute shortage of electricity for decades now. This has led to poor or no mobile and internet connectivity. On October 17 last year, Power Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla said the rural electrification programme launched by Prime Minister countrywide was being aggressively taken up in the State to meet the completion target of December 2018. Informing about the status of Deen Dayal Upadhaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY) in the State, he said that 895 un-electrified villages in the off-grid areas were yet to be electrified, which was being taken up by Rural Electrification Cooperation (REC). Shonaam Tabri DADA ITANAGAR, Jun 08: A local boy has lodged a complaint to Consumer Rights Organisation-Arunachal Pradesh (CRO-AP) against Government Middle School at Niti Vihar here for demanding money to provide transfer certificate (TC). A team from CRO-AP, which bats for the rights of consumers in the State, met headmaster in-charge Biri Tapa on Thursday to find out whether a price has been put to obtaining TC. “Tapa admitted the school was charging money for TC from the students for certain reasons. This is very disturbing for a government-run school,” CRO-AP President Achu Bagang told The Arunachal Pioneer. “It is a request to the State Education department to provide adequate fund for the educational institutions and visit the schools toward improving the quality of education,” he said. The complainant said the school was charging Rs 300 from Class I-V and Rs 800 from VI-VIII. Investigation revealed another student of Class VI did not get TC until hi...

NIT in crisis again as director leaves to join Assam institute

Shonaam Tabri DADA YUPIA, Jun 08: The fight of students’ unions to have a regular director for National Institute of Technology (NIT) here appears to have been in vain with Dr Rajiv Kumar Garg quitting to join NIT Silchar in Assam on Thursday. Heeding the demand of the students, the Ministry of Human Resource Development had appointed Dr Garg as Director of NIT Yupia five months ago. His departure has raised many an eyebrow. In a statement to the Capital police, Dr Garg said he resigned for personal reasons. His colleagues and NIT staff said he quit because of family issues and poor functioning of the institution. But the minutes of the 20th meeting of NIT’s Board of Governors (BoG) held at the AICTE conference room in New Delhi on April 13 said he had received threat calls, as did the registrar in-charge and other faculty members. The minutes also said the threats made it difficult for the institute’s functionaries to work freely within or outside the NIT campus...

SHONAAM  TABRI DADA ITANAGAR, Apr 17: Along with various other parts of the country, the post- demonetization  scenario has revisited the Capital Complex and adjoining areas with ATMs, primarily those of SBI, going ‘cashless’ to compound the misery of the people. ATMs in Itanagar, Naharlagun, NERIST and Doimukh have rarely dispensed cash for a month despite claims by officials that there is no cash crunch in the State and elsewhere in the country. People waiting at ATM for cash to be deposited by the bank officials . Amid speculations that political parties running the governments are stashing money with the 2019 LokSabha polls in mind, bank officials have blamed the crisis on non-availability of cash with the Reserve Bank of India. “RBI has not yet released the volume of cash needed, and as a result subordinate banks are finding it hard to refill the ATMs at Ganga, Doimukh, Naharlagun and Nirjuli,” Tarun Kumar Boro, SBI’s Chief Manager (Compliance an...

Anti-poor Congress disrupting Parliament deliberately: Gao

Image
STAFF REPORTER ITANAGAR, Apr 12: The opposition Congress knows it will fail in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. This is the reason why the party is disrupting the Budget session of the Parliament where various bills for the poor and need were to have been placed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, State BJP President Tapir Gao said on Thursday. BJP leaders and workers observed a day-long fast at the IG Park tennis court here to protest the “undemocratic” actions of the Congress leading to the disruption of the Budget session of Parliament on Tuesday. “ Mobilising other parties to join the disruptive act is a sign of failure,” Gao said at the fasting venue, advising the Congress to decide on a prime minister candidate first. “ Though we are more in number in the Parliament, we are respecting democracy by following the guidelines of the House. Disruption of the session by the opposition party is shameful. Parliament is an institution where everyone has the right to discuss and de...
